Welcome to the world of food science! This class is designed to inspire creativity and deductive reasoning by taking common, super-market snack items and "re-engineering" them into healthier, more inclusive snacks. Students will learn about the ingredients that go into their favorite snacks, brainstorm ways to make them more inclusive and healthier (e.g., eliminating common food allergens), develop a new snack recipe through trial and error and finally, design packaging and labeling for their newly engineered products. At the end of each unit, students will have a fully realized, delicious snack product that they can take home and share with family and friends. Cost is for an 11-week class and includes substantial ingredients and materials.

IMPORTANT ALLERGY INFORMATION: This class seeks to re-engineer snacks to be safer. That said, we cannot safely accommodate children with the following food allergies: milk protein/casein, soy and corn.
