The cajòn is becoming one of the most popular percussion instruments in the world. Originally from Peru, this wonderful instrument has traveled far and wide, due to its simple, portable design and direct clear sound. In this class we will study proper basic hand techniques to work on the sounds of the cajòn: the bass, the slap, finger rolls, doubles, triplets, etc. We will cover some basic beats of the Afro-Peruvian music tradition as well as basic rhythms from Brazil, Argentina and the Caribbean. We will also explore the cajón in the context of Rock and Soul and lastly we will explore the instrument in the area of music improvisation.

NOTE:  Students are encouraged to purchase a cajón to practice at home, as they are quite affordable.  This item is a request for a package of private, 30-minute lessons but does not guarantee placement and will show up in your basket as a $0 item. Please specify a preferred day.
