In this class, students will learn to measure, whip, chop and prepare and hot and cold recipes from around the world. Students will also create personalized cookbooks with class recipes and artwork. To comply with health and safety protocols, each child will have their own boxed and labeled "Culinary Kit" with utensils for personal use. Students also will wrap their culinary creations to bring home to eat.

Joy Hanken, is not only a impassioned cook and talented artist, she has been an avid and celebrated gardener for 30 years as well! She calls herself "the quiet botanist," as she loves to do sculptural flower arrangements as well as grow fruits and vegetables. She also is a "gardening advocate:" Joy was the representative for the Greenwich/Cumberland Community Garden in the South End for over 10 years. For the last 25 years, Joy has lovingly built and tended a magnificent vegetable and flower garden at her cottage in Westport, RI (read about Joy's Westport garden in this 2012 Globe Magazine article: https://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2012/04/14/artist-garden/fzIKsF6Gg6iAWdWXrWAGxM/story.html). A longtime Coolidge Corner resident, Joy is now a member of the Lawton Park Community Garden where she served as a consultant to Brookline's planning committee for the Lawton Park Community Garden and where she holds workshops on tomato planting. Joy is delighted and eager to share her enthusiasm and love for gardening with your children!
